Does the glider land there? In Vomp in the Tyrolean district of Schwaz, some witnesses probably couldn’t believe their eyes on Saturday afternoon. Due to difficult circumstances, a German pilot (31) had to make an emergency landing in a field. Fortunately, this worked smoothly.
The 31-year-old German took off in his glider from Innsbruck airport around 2:30 p.m. His destination would have been Kufstein-Langkampfen airport. But he can’t get that far.
The strong wind caused problems
“In the Vomp area, the pilot was suddenly surprised by a strong northerly wind, which prevented further thermal rise and even reduced the flight altitude,” the police reported.
Trouble-free remote landing
Reaching the destination airport seemed impossible – also because the plane kept losing altitude. The 31-year-old was therefore forced to land outside. And he did so shortly after 4 p.m. in a field in Vomp. No problem, say the researchers.
“The plane was not damaged. The pilot was also unharmed.” After the successful landing, the 31-year-old informed Innsbruck air traffic control and the Schwaz police station.
