The use of AI in everyday life is already widespread, but we are often not even aware of it. Arno Grabher-Meyer from the Dornbirn think tank V-Research provides insight into the complex subject.
Artificial intelligence, or AI for short, is a branch of data science that deals with the automation of intelligent behavior and machine learning. The topic received enormous attention when the company OpenAI published its AI-based program ChatGPT in 2022, which, among other things, simply explains complicated matters to the user and can write messages or short texts. However, artificial intelligence often works more subtly and accompanies our daily lives: it gives us movie recommendations based on our preferences on streaming platforms, shows us personalized advertisements, suggests product recommendations or acts as an assistant on various websites. “Our modern lives are shaped by data science – and as part of that, AI. Today, no company, no development and no production can function without extensive data and its preparation,” explains Arno Grabher-Meyer, team leader in the Computational Sustainability department at V-Research.
