Financial debts were the motive for the bloody act in September last year at the bus station in Feldkirch (Vorarlberg). The suspect stabbed his 35-year-old victim several times with a knife.
The previously innocent man attacked a colleague with a knife in the center of Feldkirchen on September 23 last year and seriously injured him. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to the upper body and lacerations to his head, face and arms and had to undergo emergency surgery at the hospital.
The suspect pleaded not guilty to the jury during the trial on Monday. According to his own statements, he was first attacked with punches by the victim of the same age. He himself, out of necessity, took out the knife and stabbed. “But I didn’t want to seriously injure or kill him,” the suspect claimed during the trial before the Feldkirch Regional Court.
The crime was caused by a dispute weeks ago over 500 euros. According to the victim, the suspect stressed this to him several times and eventually traveled from Macedonia to clarify the matter. Before the meeting at the bus station, the suspect ambushed him and immediately stabbed him. The perpetrator then fled, but was arrested shortly afterwards not far from the crime scene.
The victim was believed
The final verdict was: 13 years in prison for attempted murder. The jury agreed that the suspect did not act in self-defense and did indeed intend to kill the victim. The jury believed the victim’s statements. The verdict is not yet final, the Macedonian asked for a three-day reflection period and the public prosecutor gave no explanation.
