Two climbers are missing from Mount Everest who traveled without a local guide. The two Mongols had only booked oxygen tanks and support from the base camp.
The expedition company last had contact with the 31 and 53-year-old men on Sunday evening. At this point the two mountaineers climbed close to the summit. This was announced on Tuesday by a Nepalese official at the base camp of the world’s highest mountain.
Other adventurers on the way up were instructed to keep an eye out for the two missing men. Her tour operator also sent two mountain guides to look for her. The men had booked oxygen tanks and support from base camp, but no local mountain guide.
Precious adventure
In spring, many people usually try to climb the huge mountain as the conditions are the best at this time of year. Mount Everest is located on the border between Nepal and China in the Himalayas and can be climbed from both sides. Anyone wishing to do this must apply for a reimbursement permit. In Nepal it costs $11,000 (the equivalent of €10,189.90), in China it costs more.
In total, the adventure usually costs at least 40,000 euros per person, often double that. In addition to the government contribution, local helpers are involved who guide people, carry their luggage and cook. In addition, there are the costs for accommodation, flights and equipment, including oxygen bottles.
