Dangerous scenes occurred in the Neunkirchen district of Lower Austria on Friday afternoon – especially for drivers.
Heavy rain caused flooded streets. The water flowed directly over the fields and on the Semmering Expressway (S6) there was ‘land underneath’ for a short time. Hail also fell locally, creating a risk of slipping.
Cellars and fields were flooded; The communities of Natschbach, Pitten, Wartmannstetten and Schwarzau am Steinfeld were particularly affected, as well as Neunkirchen itself. The fire brigade worked for hours.
Garages, cellars and streets were flooded
On Tuesday, heavy rain had flooded cellars and muddy streets in the Waidhofen an der Thaya district. Eleven fire brigades with 128 members were present. The rain also took its toll on Florianis in the Zwettl and Krems districts.
