Czech president released from hospital after motorcycle accident

Date:

Czech President Petr Pavel is on the mend after a motorcycle accident. He was released from the hospital on Friday for home treatment, a spokesman said. The politician apparently broke a rib.

It was said the 62-year-old injured himself in a low-speed fall while driving around a cordoned-off training ground. Pavel then spent the night for observation at the Central Military Hospital in Prague.

No further details have been given on the nature of the injury, but it is said to be “not serious”. The newspaper ‘Blesk’ claims to have heard that Pavel may have broken a rib.

Tight program despite injury
According to the presidential office, the head of state’s program remains unchanged in the coming days, including a planned foreign trip to Jordan next week. There he would meet King Abdullah II.

The former chief of the general staff Pavel has been the head of the EU and NATO member state since March 2023. He is considered an avid motorcycle enthusiast who has several vehicles in his garage. In May 2023, he traveled on his motorcycle to a meeting with Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder in Selb, Upper Franconia.

After riding without a helmet last summer, he was forced to publicly apologize. He also donated money to an association that helps accident victims.
