On Saturday morning, a fire broke out in the basement of a residential building on Paris-Lodron-Strasse in Salzburg. A total of 22 residents were able to escape through the stairwells. 16 people were taken to hospitals by the Red Cross with suspected smoke poisoning.
More than 40 emergency services from the Salzburg professional fire brigade and the volunteer fire brigade with the Gnigl fire truck were able to extinguish the fire in the basement.
An emergency doctor and eight ambulance personnel treated the people who, according to initial information, suffered minor injuries. These were divided between the LKH and the Brothers of Mercy.
It is currently unknown why the fire broke out. The police investigation is ongoing.
