Nothing happened on Saturday around the so-called Speedworld in the Bruck an der Leitha district (Lower Austria). The reason was a meeting of tuning fans who of course came with the car. The result was miles of traffic jams and the police had to intervene.
According to the operators, Pachfurth is home to “Europe’s most diverse and modern racing event venue”. A meeting of tuning fans from different countries took place here on Saturday, which apparently attracted them en masse. Soon the access road to Bruck an der Leitha, the L211 national road, was no longer working. Police had to divert traffic from the highway exit because the metal columns were sometimes backed up on the A4.
Visitors left cars behind
Nevertheless, some owners of high-powered cars sought their own alternative routes, sometimes driving through the entire Bruck city area, as well as on unpaved roads. A number of visitors even left their souped-up cars behind and tried to get to the event site on foot.
According to a report by “NÖN”, the community leadership in Bruck an der Leitha is seriously irritated by the mega-event in the neighboring town. “We were not informed in advance about the event in Pachfurth,” says Vice Mayor Roman Brunnthalter (SPÖ).
The authorities pulled the emergency brake
According to information from “Krone”, the event was initially allowed for almost 3,000 visitors, but witnesses speak of as many as 15,000 PS fans wanting to go to the venue. Figures that the police cannot confirm at the request of “Krone”. “We assume that the maximum number has been exceeded by at least twice,” says spokesperson Johann Baumschlager.
The concert scheduled for that evening was subsequently canceled by the organizer and the event was disbanded. The visitors were informed about the untimely end via a megaphone. According to the police, the departure was generally peaceful, although there were of course some complaints against the tuners. The organizer itself will also be reported for violating the requirements.
“We can only be happy that nothing happened on site,” Chief Inspector Baumschlager warns that the operational concepts of the rescue and fire brigades were not tailored to such a large crowd, which could have led to a catastrophe in the event of an emergency. The police operation officially ended around 10:15 p.m.
