Heavy rain in recent days led to a landslide in Ausservillgraten in East Tyrol on Saturday evening. The mass of the Earth began to move directly behind a single-family home. The residents – father and child – were evacuated for safety reasons. According to the mayor, they have now been taken care of by relatives.
Around 6:30 p.m., the steep slope behind the single-family home in Ausservillgraten, Versellerberg district, began to move. All in all, according to the police, approximately 2,000 cubic meters of soil may have been loosened.
Father and child now with family
After an expert from the state of Tyrol inspected the situation on site, the mayor ordered the road to be closed and the house evacuated.
“A father lives with his child in a single-family home. “They have now been taken care of by relatives,” village boss Josef Mair said in an interview with “Krone” on Sunday morning.
The rockfall net prevented something worse from happening
A rockfall net directly behind the house could have prevented something worse. There has been no damage to the house so far. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The further procedure
Mayor Mair continued on Saturday that “the water was temporarily drained from the slope”. On Sunday the track will be covered with foil. Early this week, the situation on the ground will be re-examined by experts from the state geology department. The municipal road directly below will remain closed for the time being.
