The heavy rain and its aftermath: The enormous amount of precipitation caused several slopes in Vorarlberg to slide. In Bildstein, a mudslide took place right on the edge of the settlement, and the now nationally known landslide slope in Hörbranz is also unstable again.
First things first: As things stand, there are no homes in immediate danger. Not even those buildings in Bildstein, in the immediate vicinity of which a landslide took place. However, the access road had to be temporarily closed for safety reasons, but is now open to traffic again.
Hörbranz is in danger again
The slope in Hörbranz, where a huge landslide took place in April last year, is also moving again. State geologist Eva Vigl told Radio Vorarlberg that there were extreme settlements and movements of up to ten meters at the upper measuring points. Fortunately, the mud masses could be moved away from the settlement area and the emergency services seem to have the situation under control.
Nine mudslides
A total of nine mudslides have been counted in the past two days. In Alberschwende, a road was relocated and the access road to the Pfändebahn mountain station had to be closed due to a landslide. Fortunately, these were only superficial slides.
Due to the saturated soil, it is hoped that large amounts of precipitation will not fall over Vorarlberg in the next two weeks – otherwise the situation could quickly deteriorate again.
