Even days after the “Racino Rocks” festival in Ebreichsdorf (Lower Austria), the “Krone” continues to receive strong complaints about the organization. For some readers, the road home is particularly difficult. According to recent reports, a catastrophe was even narrowly avoided.
Roland G. was one of the 60,000 visitors who came to the big Metallica concert on Saturday. He describes dramatic scenes to krone.at: Visitors were led through a forest on the way to the parking lot, tightly fenced and with no way to escape! The path was “only a few meters wide over long passages”, “constantly narrowed” and eventually led through a narrow underpass…
G. is himself a fire protection officer for a company in Judenburg: “During panic, serious injuries seem inevitable. The walk in the dense crowd lasted an hour and ten minutes. In the history of major events, there is plenty of evidence of how dangerous such routes can be,” he says. Above all, there was a lack of so-called pressure relief (emergency exits or holes): “If there is really pushing from behind, then you write about deaths and not just about defects.”
The Styria did not only turn to the “Krone”. He also wrote to the district governor of Baden, the director of the state police and the mayor of Ebreichsdorf. Indeed, Mayor Wolfgang Kocevar responded and assured that numerous meetings would take place with organizers and emergency organizations to “learn” from Saturday’s experiences.
Visitors “lifted up” to help rescuers
Difficult incidents have also been reported at the “NÖ-Krone”: waiting areas for the buses were literally stormed after the long waiting time and barriers were ignored. Some people also panicked or collapsed and were then lifted above their heads by other visitors to the rescue workers.
People wanted to get on the highway
The folder system apparently failed completely – which Roland G. also confirms. Police or stewards could only be seen every few hundred meters. According to other visitors, many metal fans dressed in dark clothing ended up on the unlit highway. Some even wanted to walk onto the highway (!), which had to be completely closed for a short time.
The three-day hip-hop festival ‘Rolling Loud’ will take place at the same location in early July. Again with about 60,000 people per day.
