Due to heavy rain, a car overturned several times on the Pyhrnautbahn in Upper Austria on Thursday evening. Both occupants were trapped in the wreckage of the accident and had to be extricated. Some of them were taken to hospital by helicopter. The closure of the road caused a traffic jam of 15 kilometers.
It was the heavy rain on Thursday evening that probably led to a serious accident on the A9 near Spital am Pyhrn (Upper Austria). Two Styrians (39 and 37) skidded in their car, went off the right side of the road and, according to the police, rolled several times over the dike until they came to a stop standing on their tires. The car was completely destroyed by the multiple rollovers and the two occupants were trapped inside.
Both prisoners in hospital
The fire brigade freed the two from the car. The driver (39) from the Deutschlandsberg district was taken to Rottenmann Hospital, and his passenger (37) from the South-East Styrian district was flown by rescue helicopter to Kirchdorf.
15 kilometers of traffic jam
The Pyhrnautbahn was completely closed at the accident site for more than an hour. The resulting traffic jam stretched over 15 kilometers.
