Heavy thunderstorms are currently again spreading over large parts of Austria: there is a risk of large hail and heavy showers. Violet – and therefore the strongest – severe weather warning level exists in Lower Austria and Burgenland.
Around 2:30 p.m., a heavy thunderstorm front passed over the southern Vienna Basin. Hailstones the size of a two-euro coin fell from the sky in the Neunkirchen district.
As the Austrian Severe Weather Center reports, a supercell also formed in western Burgenland – this could produce hailstones with a diameter of up to five centimeters.
There is currently a red warning level for severe weather in Vienna, Upper Austria, Carinthia, Styria and Tyrol. Thunderstorms and hail should also be expected here.
According to Geosphere Austria, warm, humid and thundery weather is forecast again on Sunday. Heavy thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail and showers are possible, especially in the afternoon hours. The daily maximum temperatures are 28 degrees.
