Attentive witnesses alerted the police around 7:00 a.m. after they saw the 35-year-old attacking passers-by with a wooden batten near a hospital. The officers were only able to stop the suspect in Vienna-Alsergrund. However, the man refused to drop the wooden batten, which contained a long nail. Shortly afterwards, he attacked the officers with it.

The officers then used pepper spray and the 35-year-old was arrested despite violent resistance. Further investigation revealed that the 35-year-old had probably recently committed a robbery in Vienna-Neubau. The suspect is now in a penitentiary.
