Incredible accident in Weyer (Upper Austria): A four-year-old boy is said to have leaned against the fly screen of an open window on the second floor while he was playing with his brother (6) while his mother was on the toilet. The four-year-old fell nine meters and landed on the asphalt.
On Monday afternoon, two brothers – four and six years old – were playing together in their apartment in Weyer. The mother, a 26-year-old Syrian, was at home and the father was at work. When the 26-year-old went to the toilet, the accident happened.
Fall of nine meters
According to police, her four-year-old son climbed off the bed onto the windowsill in the bedroom. The window was open and a fly screen was applied with adhesive tape. Then the boy must have leaned against it – and fallen from the second floor about nine meters into the depths and landed on the asphalt.
Boy flown to university hospital
When the mother returned, she heard her son screaming. She immediately ran to the front of the apartment building and carried the four-year-old to nearby relatives. They called 911. The boy was flown by rescue helicopter to Kepler University Hospital in Linz with life-threatening injuries.
The cautious ‘all clear’ came on Monday evening in response to a request from ‘Krone’: ‘The boy is in pediatric intensive care and is stable,’ according to the university hospital.
Just a side note for the family at this time: police have opened an investigation against the mother for negligent bodily harm.
