In the German city of Mannheim, a fugitive, who is believed to have previously killed his father, hit four cyclists with a car. A 71-year-old cyclist was fatally injured. Three other people were seriously injured and taken to hospitals, police and prosecutors said Sunday evening.
The 36-year-old suspect is accused of murdering his 69-year-old father shortly after 6 p.m. in Ellerstadt, Rhineland-Palatinate. The alleged perpetrator then fled in a car before police arrived.
Jump in the Rhine
In Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, he collided with four cyclists. After the serious accident, the man fled again – this time on foot. He then jumped into the adjacent Rhine.
Mental Emergency
“The man, who was probably in a mental state of emergency, was eventually arrested by police,” investigators said. A helicopter and water police were deployed. This is now being further investigated. The scene of the accident on Rhenaniastrasse in Mannheim was cordoned off over a large area on Sunday evening.
