Meter-high flames spread wildly on Saturday evening after a single-family home caught fire in Herzogsdorf (Upper Austria). The owner (51) initially tried in vain to extinguish the fire himself. The cause was the defective battery of an electric moped.
The 51-year-old first tried to extinguish the fire himself, to no avail. The homeowner then called the fire department for help around 8:30 p.m.
A total of 15 fire brigades arrived with almost 200 Florianis to fight the flames, which were now several metres high. The emergency services were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby forest.
“Fire out” after three hours
After more than three hours, the fire department was able to report that the fire had been extinguished. Fortunately, no one was injured by the fire, but there was considerable damage to the house.
It has already been clarified what caused the devastating fire: the defective battery of an electric moped.
