An 18-year-old appeared before a jury at the Graz Regional Criminal Court on Tuesday for allegedly stabbing his father with a knife in Feldbach (Styria). He had previously caught him having sex with his girlfriend – next to his siblings in the children’s room.
The crime occurred in March when the suspect came home drunk and got into an argument with his father. “I deeply regret hurting him and I swear I didn’t mean to kill him,” the suspect said.
What happened? The young Ukrainian came home from a birthday party at his parents’ apartment and brought his girlfriend. When he had sex with her in the children’s room where his siblings were sleeping, things broke out between him and his father. He reprimanded him sharply and a physical altercation ensued.
Son came back with stiletto
The son then left the apartment and returned with a switchblade. He used it to stab his father, who was washing himself in the bathroom. The 18-year-old then ran out of the apartment, threw the knife away and eventually called the police.
“Tense relationship”
“He had a very tense relationship with his father, and this argument was the final spark,” the lawyer said, stressing: “He is not a murderer.” The stabs hit the man in the shoulder and flank, but those injuries were not life-threatening.
The 18-year-old stressed that he did not want to kill his father. “What did you want?” asked Judge Florian Farmer. “I was drunk and angry and I acted out of emotion,” the defendant replied. The anger blocked his mind. He told police that he wanted to stab his father in the stomach.
When questioned, he admitted to having an aggression and alcohol problem. Because of his aggressive behavior, he underwent therapy in his home country, but after three sessions, war broke out and the family had to leave. The victim did not want to testify and his interrogation is on video.
