This decision has nothing directly to do with the termination of the proceedings in Miami – but it may have an indirect connection.

Justice Clarence Thomas wrote in an opinion on the immunity ruling that special counsel Jack Smith was not legally appointed and therefore had no standing to charge Trump. No direct legal implications emerged from Thomas’s text in the ruling.
