In Mexican Port – “Theft of the Century”: precious metals looted

Date:

Spectacular theft in a Mexican port: A gang of thieves stole about 20 containers in Manzanillo – including some with gold and silver. Some media spoke of the “theft of the century”.

Colima State spokesman Gustavo Adrian Joya described the act Monday (local time) as “unprecedented”. “There have been isolated thefts from containers, but not in this amount.” According to Joya, the heavily armed assailants disabled security teams at the port of Manzanillo, Mexico’s main commercial port on the Pacific coast. It then took the gang eight to ten hours to get the containers from a private part of the port.

According to Joya, the thieves were very “picky”. They would only have stolen precious metals and other valuable goods such as air conditioners. The crime took place in early June, but has only now become known.

work of “organized crime”
The head of the national customs, Horacio Duarte Olivares, blamed the crime on “organized crime”. The prosecutor’s office announced investigations, but did not disclose the amount of gold and silver stolen.
