In Linz, police officers tied themselves to a vehicle in which two sets of parents were driving towards Spitz in Lower Austria to break into several apartments there. During the burglary attack, the two men waited with their two small children in a parking lot while the mothers entered the houses.
The Upper Austrian police had information about Romanians who were allegedly in Austria to steal. Investigators eventually became aware of a vehicle that was allegedly used in the crimes. Surveillance of the car, which was parked in Linz, began on July 17.
Arrested while sneaking in
The next day, two Romanian parents and their two small children, aged one and two, drove to Spitz in Lower Austria. According to the police, the two mothers (23 and 32) tried to enter several houses through unlocked doors. But because everything was locked, the gang moved on to Statzendorf.
Once again, the two men (aged 22 and 36) waited in a parking lot with the small children while the women went on a “tour”. In the front room of a single-family home, the handcuffs finally clicked around the mothers, they were caught red-handed and arrested.
Families are in prison
During the search, the police found stolen cash in the suspect’s handbags and on his person. The two fathers – who were also arrested – also had a large amount of cash on them.
The mothers subsequently confessed that they had traveled to Austria in May and June for thefts. The men have partially confessed and have been transferred to St. Pölten prison. The mothers and their two small children are in Krems prison.
