Due to a broken down truck, the Fernpass road in the Tyrolean town of Ausserfern had to be completely closed on Wednesday afternoon, causing long traffic jams. A tractor-trailer had probably lost its trailer due to a defect in the fifth wheel.
While initially one lane remained open, the road had to be completely closed for the cleaning work. The ban was lifted in the afternoon.
The incident occurred shortly after noon on a left-hand bend between Nassereith and Fernsteinsee. The semi-trailer, loaded with aluminum scrap, scraped against the road wall and got stuck with the tractor’s drive shaft, the director said.
Material damage to the wall
To recover the trailer, according to a police spokeswoman, we had to wait for a second tow truck or a special crane. This finally arrived around 2:30 p.m. During the subsequent clean-up, the Fernpasweg was impassable for about an hour. After the closure was lifted, the traffic jam slowly dissipated. There was material damage to the wall, the asphalt and the vehicle. No one was injured.
