Family in hospital – “Front-on” on highway leaving five people injured

Date:

On Thursday evening, a serious traffic accident occurred on the Arlbergsnelweg S16 (Vorarlberg). A BMW driver crossed the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the Ford of a family of four. All five victims were injured, one seriously.

At approximately 20:28, a family of four was traveling in their white Ford Galaxy, with a blue canoe loaded on top, and a caravan on the Arlbergschnellstraße, S16, towards Tyrol. At the same time, a man was also driving in the opposite direction in his red BMW X1. According to police reports, the driver of the BMW veered off the left side of the lane at kilometer 58.3 and ended up in the oncoming traffic.

Multiple broken bones
There was a head-on collision between the two driver’s sides of the cars. The BMW was then turned around and thrown back into the lane towards Germany. The man suffered serious injuries in the accident, including several broken bones, and was flown to the hospital in Dornbirn by the Christophorus 8 medical emergency helicopter.

The four family members probably had many guardian angels and, according to the first assessments of the emergency doctors on the scene, were probably only slightly injured. They were all taken by ambulance to the state hospital in Bludenz. Both the cars and the caravan were a total write-off. A crash barrier was also damaged.
