On Monday, a woman fell into a streambed of the Schwarza near the 1st water supply route of Vienna near Reichenau an der Rax (Lower Austria) and suffered serious injuries. She was flown to hospital by rescue helicopter.
A 67-year-old German citizen and her husband (68) were returning from a hike on the 1st Viennese Water Pipe Route in the Mittagstein area in the municipality of Reichenau an der Rax in the Neunkirchen district. The two left the marked path and were looking for a place to swim on the Schwarza.
Slipped while taking pictures
While trying to take a photo, the woman slipped and fell five to six meters into the shallow streambed of the Schwarza, the Lower Austrian State Police Directorate said. The man immediately alerted the mountain rescue service and the fire department.
To the hospital by helicopter
The 67-year-old was rescued from the creek bed by emergency services and received first aid from a Red Cross team. The victim suffered serious injuries in the fall and was flown to Wiener Neustadt State Hospital by the Martin 5 rescue helicopter.
