The strange event has led to tensions among the winegrowers in Neustift. Chairman Peter Wolff of the winegrowers’ association sees this as a wrong signal. Organiser Thomas Huber, on the other hand, plays down the situation.
A few days before the big festival spectacle in Neustift, there is a great atmosphere between the operators. The reason is that the well-known winery Fuhrgassl-Huber is organizing a “Queer Happy Hour” for the first time on Thursday. Drag queen Candy Licious and SPÖ state councilor Mario Lindner are available for a meet & greet, Fuhrgassl-Huber serves his frizzante. The aim of the event is to make an active contribution to more tolerance, according to the broadcast.
Wolff: “It’s not ideal”
But Peter Wolff, chairman of the wine association Neustift am Walde, does not like it at all. “I only heard about it half an hour ago in a broadcast, that surprised me”, said Wolff in an initial reaction to the “Krone”. The chairman criticizes that this has not been discussed within the club.
“Of course, every company can do what they want, but it’s not ideal,” says the winemaker. Does this damage the image of Kirtag or will there soon be more strange events on Kirtag? “It can’t do any harm, but that’s not the direction we want to go,” says Wolff.
And what does the owner of the house say about that? “It’s a normal birthday party with 20 to 30 guests and we have a collaboration with Queer Moments, nothing more,” explains Thomas Huber. He doesn’t understand the sudden commotion. In any case, there will be another queer ball in his house in the fall.
Even Candy Licious herself can’t understand the excitement in the quiet wine town. “Everything stays the same. I’m someone who promotes solidarity. By not wanting us there, Mr. Wolff shows how he thinks,” the artist told “Krone.” In any case, she’s already looking forward to the popular traditional event.
