Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the knife attack in Solingen. North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Minister Herbert Reul confirmed this on Saturday evening on ARD and spoke of a “real suspect” who had been sought all day.
There had been repeated reports of arrests – krone.at reported – probably witnesses or accomplices. There was also access to an asylum seekers’ home.
The “real suspect” eventually turned himself in — Saturday night during a police patrol, as “Spiegel” reported. His clothes were dirty and smeared with blood, the magazine cited information from security circles.
According to the newspaper ‘Bild’, the man said: ‘I am the one you are looking for.’ He had therefore hidden in a backyard.
