The perpetrator reportedly knelt in front of the stage before the attack, before spraying the paint on Wagenknecht, according to “Welt”. The suspect was then pushed to the ground by security forces and taken away in handcuffs. The incident took place shortly after her speech had ended. After a short break, the politician continued her performance.
The motive of the suspect (50) is still unclear
A police spokesman told Bild on Thursday evening: “During Mrs. Wagenknecht’s speech, the man gained access to the cordoned-off area unnoticed and sprayed her with a previously unknown red liquid. The emergency services on site immediately overpowered the man and arrested him. He is a 50-year-old German whose motive for the crime is still being determined. He is still in police custody.”
