Alpine drama in Tyrol – 150 meters! Witness had to see fatal crash

Date:

Another fatal accident in the Tyrolean mountains: In the Stubai Alps, a 39-year-old mountaineer fell about 150 meters over steep terrain and died. A witness saw the horrific crash and raised the alarm. Unfortunately, all help came too late for the man. In the meantime, the police were able to solve the mystery of the identity of another mountain dead man.

The accident had already taken place on Wednesday. Because the relatives had to be notified first, the police only announced the tragedy on Friday. The 39-year-old German was on a solo hike from the Innsbruckerhut over the Pramarnspitze to the Bremerhut.

Fatally injured in fall
“Probably west of the Pramarnspitze in the municipality of Gschnitz, the hiker fell for unknown reasons at an altitude of around 2,280 metres on a point secured with a steel cable. The 39-year-old then fell about 150 metres through rocky terrain. He sustained fatal injuries,” the director reported.

A witness observed the accident and immediately set the rescue chain in motion. “The emergency doctor in the rescue helicopter could only determine that the hiker was dead,” the investigators continued. The victim was then rescued by police helicopter and flown down the valley to Gschnitz.

A local man fell to his death on Karkopf
On Thursday, another fatal alpine accident occurred in the Karkopf area near Telfs (Innsbruck-Land district). A 36-year-old local man fell 100 meters during a mountain hike. After the man had lost contact with his girlfriend, his body was discovered during a helicopter flight.

Identity of victim clarified
Tyrolean police also reported Friday that the identity of a mountaineer who crashed in the Karwendel Mountains in early August had been clarified. An initially unknown mountaineer fell 110 meters to his death over a rock face in the Lamsenspitze area on August 7. DNA testing has now revealed that the climber is a 54-year-old man from Germany.
