A boat owner’s refueling at the lakeside gas station in Fußach (Vorarlberg) resulted in a major fire brigade operation on Sunday. The ship’s captain wanted to quickly clean a waste water tank with water. However, he mistook it for the fuel tank, as fuel entered the lake via the vent pipe.
When the unfortunate man noticed the accident, he and the harbour master tried to limit the damage and alerted the emergency services.
No danger to water sports enthusiasts
As a precaution, the Fußach fire department built an extensive oil barrier and removed the small oil slick. There was no danger to water sports enthusiasts. The water quality was also not affected.
