Tyroleans are angry – they pay despite their pension: the World Cup is now merciful, but the state is not

Date:

A Tyrolean pensioner has now achieved partial success and his mandatory contributions have been waived at the Chamber of Commerce. However, he still has to pay the tourist tax to the country. The Fritz list is also outraged about this.

Although he has been retired since October 1, 2022, Mr. D. (name known to the editors) still had to pay the World Cup contribution and the tourist tax to the state of Tyrol. The ‘Krone’ reported on the former independent insurance broker at the end of July.

The WK justified the levy by stating that D. had reported his company as dormant, but had not deleted it. Meanwhile, the state emphasized that no operational closure has taken place yet and that is why D. is still listed as active.

Chamber of Commerce has issued contributions
Desperate, the Tyrolean turned to Markus Sint, club chairman of the Fritz list in the Tyrolean state parliament. Now D. could achieve partial success.

As the politician reports: “The World Cup was insightful and interested in a solution. They have waived Mr. D.’s contributions for this year and he has not only closed down his business, but also deregistered.” The bad news: the state does not see a waiver of the tourist tax for Mr. D., even though he has also closed his business there.

In the case of the country, reference is made to “follow-up committees”
On the contrary: the pensioner must continue to pay these. The reason for this is explained in an e-mail to D.: “What is relevant is not the cancellation of the trade permit, but rather the cessation of self-employment in accordance with VAT legislation. In this context, particular reference is made to the continuation of the status of entrepreneur in the context of a possible collection of subsequent commissions.”

‘It’s a shame that the government is stubborn’
Not only the pensioner shakes his head for this reason, but also Markus Sint: “It is a pity that the black-red state government is stubborn and hides behind paragraphs instead of finding a humane solution. The case of Mr. D. shows how unfair this tourist tax has become. Everyone who is not standing in a tree on three is cashed in. On behalf of the state government and tourism.”

Club chairman Sint is convinced that this “reckless monetization” is damaging to tourism. The Fritz list again calls for “a reform of the tourist tax, with drastically fewer contributors and the calculation of payments based on profit and not turnover.”
