Italy’s right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has been widely criticized for a good-natured selfie with Hollywood star Mel Gibson, as parts of the country declared a state of emergency due to flooding, Meloni was clearly having fun with the actor.
The leader of the far-right Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy) party has received more than 120,000 likes on Instagram, where she commented “Mel & Mel” on a selfie of herself with Gibson. There were also nasty comments, however. One user wrote briefly: “We are sinking in the mud here!” Meloni did not attend a special meeting of her cabinet in Rome, which was held almost simultaneously with the publication of the selfie.
The Fratelli boss has led a coalition of three right-wing parties for almost two years. She is very active on Instagram and other internet platforms.
Mel Gibson seeks location for Jesus film
The 68-year-old director is currently looking for suitable locations for the sequel to ‘The Passion of the Christ’, which is about the suffering of Jesus Christ. Just like in part 1, which led to loud protests from the Jewish community because of graphic scenes of violence, Jim Caviezel will take on the role of Jesus.
