Dangerous scenes took place on the Zugspitze in Tyrol over the weekend. A paraglider ran into turbulence, had to pull the emergency parachute and eventually ended up in a gravel trench. Numerous people witnessed the spectacular incident, which was captured on video (see above).
The incident happened around 1 p.m. Saturday. “A 33-year-old German was flying his paraglider near the top of Zugspitze when he suddenly fell into a so-called lee vortex on the southwest side and lost control of the glider,” police said.
To the hospital by helicopter
The German then immediately pulled the emergency parachute and had to make an emergency landing in a gravel trench in the area of the old Zugspitzbahn. Eyewitnesses were numerous visitors to the Zugspitz massif.
It is unknown how seriously the man was injured. After first aid at the accident site, the 33-year-old was flown by the emergency doctor’s helicopter to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen clinic.
