The case of the 76-year-old patient who was admitted to the LKH Bruck, but could not be operated on there – or in Leoben – is causing a stir. The regional SPÖ insists on security of supply, the FPÖ is taking the matter to the state parliament.
At the Bruck Hospital, where the woman was admitted with pain in the upper abdomen on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., she could not be operated on, at Leoben and at the University Hospital of Graz the operation was rejected due to capacity limitations, and at the Ottakring Clinic and the clinic . The General Hospital of Vienna (understandably) did not feel responsible: the case of the 76-year-old woman from Styria, who required urgent surgery due to an acute vascular occlusion, caused a wave of outrage.
Only after more screaming did the patient finally end up on the operating table in Graz around 8 p.m.
SPÖ resolution
“The incident is dramatic and disturbing. The region’s SPÖ mayors warned of such a situation long ago and submitted a resolution to that effect. “I demand a quick explanation from those responsible for Kages,” said Stefan Hofer, mayor of Turnau and SPÖ member of the state parliament.
The FPÖ submits the matter to the state parliament: “This matter must be subjected to further political consideration, and that is why we will submit an investigation into the matter. Unfortunately, this tragic incident is also due to increasing centralization. “There must be a reversal of the trend in health policy, an end to the thinning out of the regions,” said Blue Health spokesman Marco Triller.
Erich Schaflinger, medical director of the LKH Hochsteiermark, emphasized to the “Krone” that the “patient is on the way to recovery, the woman is now responsive and has been transferred back to Leoben”. “It is undeniable that we are not optimally supplied everywhere in the region,” he says.
More money for anesthesiologists
That is why we have been working for some time on new measures such as closer cooperation with Judenburg, the implementation of a fourth service bicycle at the Leoben location or higher compensation for the anesthesiologists at the LKH Hochsteiermark.
