Martin Sellner, former head of the right-wing extremist Identitarian movement in Austria, has been banned from entering Switzerland for 18 days. The background is a speech scheduled for October 19 in the canton of Zurich on the topic of “remigration” – that is, on the fact that a large number of people of foreign origin, for example, even have to leave Germany under duress.
Sellner explained that the lecture, which he was due to give as part of an event organized by the right-wing extremist organization ‘Junge Tat’, would still take place. The entry ban, which also applies to Liechtenstein, is a “disgrace for this country, for this country that was proud of its freedom of expression,” Sellner complained in a video published on social media. Switzerland is “no longer a place of free spirits, but has become a closed left-wing ideological fortress.”
First attempt to appear in Switzerland also prevented
A similar appearance in the Swiss community of Tegerfelden was prevented by police in March. She intervened because, in her opinion, public safety was not guaranteed.
Also at that time, the Zurich police force had asked the Federal Police (Fedpol) to deny Sellner entry to the country, but the federal government had refrained from doing so. Fedpol said at the time: “A radical or extreme attitude alone is not sufficient as a reason for a threat to internal or external security or as a justification for preventive police measures.”
Sellner wins legal victory against Greens
On another front, Sellner recently achieved legal success. Green Party Secretary General Olga Voglauer lost a legal battle against the right-wing extremist.
After it became known in August that Sellner was being investigated in Saarbrücken for allegedly giving the Hitler salute during a meeting, Voglauer wrote on X: “The FPÖ will continue to seek proximity to an organization whose most famous face shows the Hitler salute. greeting?”. The politician now had to withdraw this (see message above).
