Stress is stressful for most people and can even make you sick in the long run. But there are ways to deal with it. Stress researcher Ulrike Ehlert recently asked the question during a lecture in Feldkirch: “Stress, what next?”
Already too late and then also a traffic jam on the Rhine Valley motorway? Did the kids mess around again in the morning? Does your boss find it annoying that something still needs to be done, even though you have theater tickets? All this causes stress – negative stress. You feel uncomfortable, irritable and sometimes react aggressively. In the long run, this negative stress makes you sick.
High blood pressure increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Diabetes, elevated liver values, skin rashes, gastrointestinal diseases, burnout or depression are further consequences of constant pressure, hectic pace and far too high expectations in daily life. Stress researcher and professor at the University of Zurich, Ulrike Ehlert, does not only see stress negatively – during her lecture at the Chamber of Labor in Feldkirch as part of the event series ‘Knowledge for Life’ she even asked the provocative question: “Stress, well and?”
