A 21-year-old soldier was shot and wounded by his colleague in the Türk barracks in Spittal an der Drau on Tuesday.
The incident happened shortly after 4 p.m., the force said. The shot came from the gun of a 20-year-old guard and hit the 21-year-old recruit.
Wounded soldier flown to hospital by helicopter
Both soldiers are military personnel, belong to the Carinthian Military Command and come from the Spittal an der Drau district. The guard soldier has the rank of corporal.
The injured soldier was immediately treated and flown to hospital by emergency medical helicopter. The military leadership and the police are investigating the case. A military psychologist takes care of the people in the barracks.
In 2018, a drama took place in this barracks: a 19-year-old soldier shot himself in the head with the StG 77.
