Iran’s judiciary has imposed an additional six-month prison sentence on Iran’s Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi, imprisoned in Tehran, for “disobedience” and ignoring instructions from prison authorities.
The sentence is a response by the judiciary to its ongoing protest against executions in the country, according to a post on Mohammadi’s Instagram profile, which is managed by relatives and friends.
A group of supporters also condemned the new prison sentence because of the 52-year-old’s health. She needs medical care. However, this would be denied to her by the management of the infamous Ewin prison in Tehran. Mohammadi suffers from heart failure. Her condition is said to have deteriorated drastically.
According to reports, the Nobel Peace Prize winner will remain in prison for at least almost two more years. The physicist has been arrested thirteen times in recent years and each time sentenced to long prison terms.
