The incident took place on October 17 at the El Campillo industrial estate, in the workshops of construction company Viuda de Sainz. ELA has organized a protest meeting for this Thursday.
The employee was injured on October 17 Abanto Zierbena (Bizkaia) died while repairing an excavator engine at Cruces Hospital, as reported by the ELA union in a statement.
This is a man of 52 years who suffered an impact on one of his eyes while working in the workshops of the construction company Viuda de Sainz in the Industrial estate El Campilloin the aforementioned Biscay town.
ELA has highlighted the “high accident rate” in Euskadi, especially in the region construction industryand has attributed this to the “continued and widespread failure to comply with the most basic prevention and protection measures by companies.”
It also holds the institutions accountable and demands in particular the Basque Government to give priority to this issue and “provide the necessary resources to combat non-compliance with the law on the prevention of occupational risks, with the aim of recurrence to prevent it.”
The union called in protest against this death a rally next Thursday for the employers’ association Ascobi in Bilbao.
