An incredible family tragedy has occurred in Niagara Falls. Shocked eyewitnesses watched as 33-year-old Chianti Means jumped into the water with her nine-year-old son Roman and her five-month-old daughter Macca – and all three were dragged 65 meters to their deaths.
According to New York State Police, Means and her children showed up on Luna Island, just above the edge of Niagara Falls, around 9 p.m. Monday.
“According to our investigation, the woman climbed over the safety barrier. She deliberately jumped into the waters of Niagara Falls with her nine-year-old son and five-month-old daughter.”
The bodies have not yet been recovered
Until early Thursday morning, police and fire brigades had not been able to recover the bodies. The search was “failed”.
The woman, who earned her social work degree from the University at Buffalo in 2020, lived in the waterfall city of Niagara Falls. According to police, “there is still no evidence of a motive for the young woman’s suicide.”
On Means’ Facebook page, her friend Kayshawna Morgane gave a hint of what could have been behind the unimaginable act: “I cried all night, my heart was broken. Mental health needs to be taken seriously!”
The observation decks, overseen by the New York City Office of Parks and Recreation, are open day and night.
