US President Joe Biden welcomed children to the White House for Halloween for the last time in office. Wife Jill, dressed as a panda, read to children while her husband, in a suit, handed out sweets and joked with a baby dressed as a chicken. The 81-year-old wants to participate in the inauguration of his successor in January, regardless of the election result.
First Lady Jill Biden dressed as a panda. The reason: two pandas from China recently went on display at the Washington Zoo.
In the afternoon she read a book to children. Under the motto “Hello Reading”, the event was intended to encourage reading in addition to fun.
Attend the inauguration
According to the White House, Biden wants to attend his successor’s inauguration in January, regardless of the election outcome (see video above). “To participate in the inauguration, to be part of a historic process that takes place on a regular basis – he will certainly participate in that,” his spokeswoman said.
‘It’s not about him. It’s about the American people. This is what the American people need to see, no matter who wins,” she said.
Close race predicted
Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump will face off against each other in next Tuesday’s presidential election (November 5). The 81-year-old Biden withdrew from the presidential race after increasing criticism of his old age and nominated his deputy as a replacement candidate. It comes down to a neck-and-neck race between Harris and Trump.
