North Korea has conducted another missile test, according to the South Korean military. Several short-range missiles were fired from the western province of North Hwanghae towards the Sea of Japan (Korean: East Sea) on Tuesday morning (local time).
The report was distributed by South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, citing the General Staff. North Korea last tested an intercontinental ballistic missile last week.
Ballistic missile tests banned by the UN
UN resolutions ban the self-proclaimed nuclear power from launching or even testing ballistic missiles from any range. This usually concerns surface-to-surface missiles that – depending on the version – can also be equipped with a nuclear warhead.
Criticism of sending soldiers to Russia
Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have increased significantly recently. Over the past two years, North Korea has significantly expanded its missile tests and increased its rhetoric against the United States and South Korea. In addition, according to South Korean intelligence and the US Department of Defense, North Korea has sent several thousand soldiers to Russia, where they are likely being prepared for a mission against Ukraine.
