Philip Pscheidt won the final of the harmonica competition in Lannach this year. The 13-year-old from Weiz has been playing the Styrian harmonica since he was six. “This was the most important competition for me so far,” said the prize winner.
Philip Pscheidt prevailed against three other finalists and one finalist: Philipp Herbst, Nina Jeitler, Matthias Moritz and Dominik Peiser. His performances of “Tanzboden Landler” (compulsory piece) and “Im Eiltritt nach St. Peter” (freestyle piece) helped him win. He received 76 points for this (80 is possible).
He can be happy with the first prize, a Styrian harmonica from Strasser. All other finalists also received non-monetary prizes from the Steirisches Volksliedwerk.
Pscheidt has been playing the harmonica since he was six and in his spare time also performs in an ensemble with his sister and a friend.
The jury chose the winner
A leading expert jury – Christine Gutzelnig, Christian Hartl, Karl Lenz and Franz Posch – had the difficult task of assessing the individual performances and choosing Styria’s best young harmonica player.
The match was broadcast on television by ORF Steiermark and can be viewed online.
