It had to be done quickly; If a solution had not been found quickly, there would have been about thirty people on the street on Thursday. Now it’s time to breathe a sigh of relief for the formerly homeless Roma in Innsbruck.
As reported, a hostel must be demolished immediately – several months earlier than expected. For about thirty people this would have meant that they would have to ‘live’ on the streets from Thursday.
Jussuf Windischer, chairman of the Vinziherberge, did everything he could to find a quick solution. He also found support from Innsbruck’s city politics.
Just in time!
Speed was needed to find a solution for the thirty or so Roma who would be on the streets from today, Thursday, if the response had not been so quick. Innsbruck needed a place to stay – and quickly.
The response was quick: a tip from the population led to the mobilization of a residence in Mariahilf, where about 30 people could stay as a stopover. In about ten to twenty days they can then move to a house in the Kranebitten district, which was also found through word of mouth.
The completely neglected house is then cleaned up and prepared by the Roma – according to the city, sanitary facilities and electricity are currently being installed there.
