Man (24) suffocates – tragic death: how safe are parking heaters?

Date:

The death of a 24-year-old from Carinthia who left his car at the weekend after a Krampus ride and wanted to spend the night in it is tragic – and then probably asphyxiated by the exhaust fumes from the parking heater. How useful – and dangerous – are such installations? asked the “Krone”.

The shock is deep: Even three days after the tragic death of Christian (24) – a pleasant young farmer from St. Salvator (St. Veit district, Carinthia) – numerous candles are burning at the scene of the accident and someone has brought flowers . The desperation is great, and the questions those left behind ask themselves are even more urgent: Why Christians of all people? Could his death have been prevented?

There has also been a lot of discussion about the terrible case on social media in recent days: “It is actually very exemplary that the young man wanted to leave his car after he had had a drink,” a user writes on Facebook: “Not everyone does that !”

However, the additional heater that was installed on the day of his death, which was supposed to keep him warm, was Christian’s downfall: he inhaled the exhaust fumes and suffocated. How is that possible?
