British John Tinniswood was born in Liverpool in 1912 and was considered the oldest man in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records. Now the 112-year-old died in a nursing home in the northwestern English city of Southport.
The Briton took over the title in April after the previous record holder, Juan Vicente Pérez from Venezuela (114), died. According to the Guinness Book, the oldest person in the world is 116-year-old Japanese woman Tomiko Itoooka.
Woman died 38 years ago
Tinniswood was born on August 26, 1912 in Liverpool – just twenty years after founding his favorite football club, Liverpool FC. The World War II veteran outlived his wife Blodwen, whom he married in 1942, by about 38 years.
Man does not ‘feel’ age
When he celebrated his birthday this summer, when asked what it felt like to turn 112, Tinniswood said, “To be honest, no different.” “That’s probably why I achieved it.” He has no special secrets or diet. On Fridays he likes to eat a portion of fish and chips.
Only three Britons have ever lived to be a parent
Tinniswood reportedly died ‘surrounded by music and love’. He is survived by a daughter, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Only three people from Britain ever lived to be a parent.
