At a primary school in Berlin’s Weißensee district, numerous children were injured by irritating gas on Monday morning, one of them seriously. An unknown person sprayed the gas, police said.
A total of 44 children suffered from irritation of the eyes and airways, the Berlin fire brigade announced. Rescue workers took 22 children to the hospital, the rest went home to their parents.
It is still unclear whether the annoying gas nozzle is an adult or a child. The police are investigating the exact cause.
Emergency services checked the air
The fire brigade suspects that the gas from a school room escaped into the hallway through an open door. Emergency services checked the air in the school and classes could continue after the all-clear, the fire brigade said.
