Apparently there was an assassination attempt on the CEO of a billion-dollar American insurance company outside the Hilton Hotel in New York City on Wednesday morning. The 50-year-old, who was on his way to a conference, was shot and fatally wounded.
According to the New York Post, shortly before 7 a.m. a masked man was waiting for Brian Thompson, CEO of the American healthcare provider UnitedHealthcare. The assailant then pulled out a gun and shot the manager multiple times. He then fled. The seriously injured 50-year-old was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect is being sought. There has been no statement from his group yet. The UnitedHealth Group, of which UnitedHealthcare is part, has a market value of approximately 545 billion euros.
