That was a bit too much wind for one or the other regatta participant. Friday evening the storm around Lake Constance thundered over Lake Constance and the waves on the otherwise calm Swabian Sea were correspondingly high.
With winds of up to six Beaufort, four boats eventually had to be salvaged by the emergency services because the skipper could no longer reach one of the safe harbors under his own power.
The operations center received the first report of a sailboat unable to maneuver in Harder Bay around 5 p.m. Friday afternoon. A line had gotten caught in the propeller of the boat in question – there was no going back and forth for the crew.
Next request for help
Not much later, the following requests for help came in. Two other sailboats were overtaken. They were unable to maneuver and had to be towed to the next port by a police boat and a fire boat. The fourth boat required the use of divers. Before it could continue, the anchor had to be salvaged.
At the end of the day, the participants did not achieve the top positions in the regatta. But at least the skippers reached the safe harbors unscathed, the respective boats undamaged.
