The more than 300-year-old granary, which has been home to the Bleiburg Mountain Rescue Service and provides volunteer rescue services summer and winter for nearly 50 years, is showing its age. In addition, mice nibble on the rescuers’ expensive equipment. A new station is to be built from May.
“Our granary is full of history. At the time, it was demolished on the Kömmel and erected on the Petzen,” says Charly Moser, chairman of the mountain rescue service. Now the old hut, which belongs to Reinhard Kraut, is being demolished, restored and then rebuilt. “Of course we will go during the dismantling. and set to work on the new building on a voluntary basis.” One of the reasons for these measures is a mouse infestation.
The work is scheduled to start at the beginning of May
The new base will be built in timber frame construction. The comradeship of the Bleiburg mountain rescue service is counting on costs of 130,000 euros – also because of the rising prices. For 49 years, the 27 active mountain rescue teams have sacrificed their free time for the safety of others. Since the start of the volunteer rescue workers, 3,000 people have been helped in the winter and 400 in the summer.

The new base should shine in new splendor next year during the celebration of the 50th anniversary. A building block action calls for help.
