100 residents affected – car in garage on fire: four residential buildings evacuated

Date:

Fire alarm late Friday afternoon in Telfs, Tyrol (Innsbruck-Land district): a car caught fire in the underground parking garage of an apartment building. The thick smoke spread so massively that eventually four residential buildings had to be evacuated. About 100 people were affected; fortunately no one was injured.

Around 5 p.m., the car, which was parked in the garage of an apartment building in Telfs, suddenly caught fire. The fire brigade arrived quickly; the situation on the ground was dangerous. “The smoke spread massively to the four residential buildings there, which is why the evacuation of about 100 people living there was necessary,” the police reported.

Garage fire under control
The fire was eventually brought under control by emergency services using heavy breathing equipment. The houses and apartments were then ventilated by the fire brigade.

The cause of the fire was probably a technical defect
Fortunately, according to police, no one was injured. The exact cause of the fire is still subject to further investigation. “However, it is very likely that a technical defect was the cause,” the researchers concluded.
